There is still an on-going debate between website/blog design and content. Is it necessary to argue over the issue? Both are equally important.
A few days ago, Google announced in their blog that they have breached the 1 trillion mark of indexed url’s. Wow! They say that these are 1 trillion unique contents. Now where am I? Oh, yeah, content is king! But wait. There’s another side of the coin here.
With that number of url’s indexed, it only means that a visitor in your site has also less than a trillion options to leave your site the soonest he hits it. See the picture?
Design and content are Siamese twins. They are inseparable. There should not even be any debate, which is more important for they both are. Design attracts and retains visitors. It lowers your bounce rates. Content keeps them interested and they will come for more. Hence, it is imperative that you maintain quality of both.
I literally go over a thousand web pages a day. Yeah, that much. Remember, there is a trillion out there. On the one hand, a good headline and opening statement would prompt me to pause and read. However, when fonts are too small, the color theme is too bright, and all the other elements of the site or blog are topsy-turvy, it prompts me to hit ctrl + w on my keyboard and off I go to another webpage. On the other hand, a good, well-designed and organized site is a pleasant to visit. Therefore, I stay for a while to read. Then I smell cr*p. Hit ctrl + w and off I go to another blog.
I repeated myself there. Nevertheless, I know, you too can relate.
Professionally designed website templates are easy to find. In fact, at Dreamtemplate.com alone, they offer over 300 high quality free templates, and access to thousands more for just $59.95. My first website template cost me $75. What they offer is real value for a small investment.
A beautifully well-designed website with content that provides real value to its visitors, in my book, is a sure winner. Invest on and strive to have both in your small business website, and surely traffic will stay longer, and they will come back for more.
So, any further or additional argument for/against design and/or content? Which is which? I would say, again, have both.
Now, have your say please.
Namaste!
