Some of the ways we show appreciation are by buying employees lunch. Once in awhile we even schedule a time to get out early and go see a movie or some other form of entertainment. These really go a long way to boost morale.

When I was working as an Intern in college I had a boss who made me feel wonderful -- her secret is that she always said thank you. Even thank you for doing my regular job that I got paid for -- she would go out of her way to tell me how much she appreciate me, how I helped make the XYZ project go so well, etc.

Sometimes the best thing you can do is just say thanks!

I could not agree with you more! When I worked hard and showed dedication to my employer, I would at least appreciate a, "Thank you", "Great job!" or something. Needless to say, I when a better opportunity came along (like running my own business), I took it.

If only I could share these with my HR people. I think they've had a hard time because we've had layoffs lately and it's tough for them. It's just a bit awkward so I think they say and do nothing.

It's the perception anyway.
